Ethiopia is presented at the G8 summit Year after year

June 5, In memory of Ayder our sorrow and condolence !!!

June 5, 2007 Ayder School was the scene of carnage, several miles away from Badme, Irob, Zalambessa and Bure, the contested and occupied territories by Eritrea. It was and has been since this malevolent attack, the symbol of Ethiopian resistance as well as the mark of Ethiopian solidarity. Therefore, this day with a sore heart, we do remember our martyred children and rescue people, who got killed cold-bloodedly, others soaked in blood and maimed, calling desperately for help, mothers and fathers with inconsolable grief for losing their beloved ones by wicked regime of Shaibya . Let’s lit a candle in memory of these sons and daughters of Ethiopia. May their souls rest in eternal peace. The sorrow is with us, they will not be forgotten. "Twelve children died in that first strike and while people made desperate rescue attempts, the plane came back and killed 41 more. In the playground today there are the beginnings of a monument to the slaughter but a makeshift museum in one of the huts provides a more powerful reminder. Pictures of children like 12-year-old Kindihafti Atsbiha and Eden Aregai, eight, taken as they registered for school, are lined up alongside photographs of the aftermath of the bombing. Take, for example, the way they reference Dedebit, the birthplace of the freedom we all enjoy today thanks to the selfless individuals who sacrificed their lives for us.

“No” to DERG Resuscitation May 24, 2007

Engineer Ghirma-Ethiopians have opened their eyes, and can see clearly what is at stake. They certainly do not desire to return to the dark old days of the DERG era. Those who had colluded with DERG in the past prospered; and transferred most of their ill-gotten wealth overseas. The same DERG colluders were beneficiaries of freedom of travel, with easy access to exit visas for themselves and their families. Those who opposed Mengistu’s regime on the other hand, were condemned to imprisonment, torture,

Comment from the Editorial:  Finally I am glad to see these projects up and running to benefit our people in particular and the nation at large. Back in 2001 few of my friend and I decided to go back home and established an organization to deal with some of the needed projects in the country, in doing so we have approached some of the regional administration with proposals and forwarded case studies on some projects according to the regional administration needs and visibilities of the project respectively. For the  region of Tigrai we have forwarded two projects:A) Modern abattoir in the city mekell. B) Qedamay weyane market center.   These two projects were our main goals for this region for that year. (The proposals and case studies we forwarded to the authorities are almost the same as what is written above in structure and cost analyses today.) All discussions and case studies have been monitored by the concerned parties. I guess it wasn’t the right time for us. Congratulation is in order for the people involved with this project. I Thank you every one..

PM Meles's interview with Al-Jazeera
Andrew Simmons: I'd like to move on now to your deteriorating relations with your neighbour Eritrea. How bad are things at the moment?
Zenawi: Well, I think it would be fair to say that they are quite bad.
Andrew Simmons: And for what reason?
Zenawi: I think the Eritrean government has come to the conclusion that they cannot live comfortably alongside a strong, united Ethiopia, under any government, and have come to the conclusion that they should try to weaken and perhaps dismantle Ethiopia to feel secure....

Peasant Revolution in Ethiopia:    The Tigray People's Liberation Front, 1975-1991 (African Studies)
Almost unnoticed, in the wake of the overthrow of Emperor Haile-Selassie, the coming to power of the military, and the ongoing independence struggle in Eritrea, a band of students launched an insurrection from the northern Ethiopian province of Tigray. Calling themselves the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), they built close relations with Tigray's poverty-stricken peasants and on this basis liberated the province in 1989, and formed an ethnic-based coalition of opposition forces that assumed state power in 1991. This book chronicles that history and focuses in particular on the relationship of the revolutionaries with Ethiopia's peasants.
